Michael "Max" McGee
During
my day job I manage a residence hall complex and a wellness center at Lock
Haven University in central Pennsylvania and have a Masters in Counseling
and Student Personnel work. I was born and raised in the little coal town of
Philipsburg, Pa., but have worked throughout the country at such notable
institutions as Penn State University, UCLA, and Hamilton college in upstate
New York. But, for the last 35 years I have been writing song lyrics and
staying connected to my creative side as well.
During
those 35 years I have had the pleasure of collaborating with a top-ten
country recording artist, a gospel recording artist, and several other very
good composers including my latest collaborator, Jeff Moxcey, an extremely
gifted songwriter. I have also had the pleasure of meeting with publishers,
producers, and sitting at a table of such notable writers as Hugh Prestwood
and Jim Rushing among others.
Throughout
those 35 years I have won numerous lyric awards from international
songwriting competitions like the American Song Festival, the Music City
Song Festival and the Louisville Songwriters Association Song Contest.
Recently, I was a runnerup in the American Songwriter Magazine lyric
competition, a semi finalist in the Dallas Songwriter’s Association Song
Contest, and the Country Category Winner in the 2003 Great American Song
Contest. To date I have had the fortune of having several independent
recording artists cut some of the songs I have written the lyrics for on
their CD’s including the most recently released CD “It’s A Dirty Job” by
Jimmy Lee Jordan. The title cut on this CD is a song by me and my
songwriting partner, Jeff Moxcey. Some of my influences have been great
lyricists and songwriters like Carol King, Gerry Goffin, John Lennon, Paul
Simon, and Diane Warren. One day, I can only hope to be able stand oh so
briefly in their considerable footprints.
